1992 camry won't start
ok i've got spark, but I don't hear the fuel pump coming on when i turn the key to the on position. Is there a spot to check fuel pressure? is there a relay/fuse for the pump? also what socket do you guys use to change the plugs? my plug sockets seem to not be able to fit down the little hole in the head. I really need to get this car going, i wrecked my other one. thanks

Re: 1992 camry won't start
The fuel pressure is checked by putting a banjo adapter on the top fitting of the fuel filter then connecting the pressure gauge to the adapter.
Socket size is 5/8". You made need a thin wall type if a standard deep well won't fit. |

Re: 1992 camry won't start
Hey fergmonster - I'd like to think davemac2 had your safety in mind when he wrote his post. I've read of 30 year mechanics buying it when working this system. The fuel system is one of several that can kill you if you're not careful or proficient. In the town down the road last year, a DIYer had removed a fuel tank to change a pump. Something went wrong leaving his family without a father and a house.
I use a standard 5/8 inch spark plug socket on my 94 and 87. Does the fuel pump relay click? Are the spark plugs wet? Getting power at the fuel pump?

Re: 1992 camry won't start
i'll know more tomorrow. will shoot wires to pump if no fuel pressure. didn't even get to take compression test b/c my 5/8 socket i had in the tool pouch wouldn't fit down the tube. is the EFI relay the one i should hear clicking? i didn't see one that was solely for the pump. no hard feelings dave, but i do try to practice safe work habits. I still haven't ruled out the timing belt either, thank god for non-interference motors!

Did it die on you while you were driving, or did you walk out to it one day and it wouldn't turn over? If while you were driving, it die all of a sudden or sputter first? How long it sputter? Constantly or intermittent? |

Re: 1992 camry won't start
and the camry runs again!!! though its not running all that well yet, hitting on 3 cylinders right now.......gonna change plugs and wires hopefully that will help. The fix was the IAC, just pulled the throttle body off, and put on one that was laying around in the garage, lol go figure! thanks guys for all the input, what a good running little car this one will be.....
