brake clicks
On my 1983 280zx the brakes seem to loose there contact with the rotors once the pedal is released. Ie you brake and several seconds later there is a slight clicking.. the brake pads have a small gap between them and the rotors...
Should I instal a residual pressure check valve? If so what pressure? Would a 2 lb be enough or should I use the 10lb? Should I use the 10 lb and install it close to the master cyl.? or a 2lb and install it closer to the brake caliper? the 10lb closer to the M.C. would allow for a stiffer pedal responce, but would it be too much and cause a drag.... Could I install the 2lb close to the M.C. ? or would the pressure not be enough..... or could I fix this problem the oe way... How would this be????? where is the checkvalve and what needs replacing??? Any advice would be appreciated.... also the check would be installed prior to them splitting so there would be both front on one and both rear on the other... Also my pedal is stiff i'm not worried about my pedal getting any stiffer... all new lines steel braided hoses etc.... Im guessing this problem is in the calipers because I used the calipers I had on my other setup... and it was doing the same thing... but this car may have also had the same prob. and it may be in the M.C. I don't know.... I would appreciate any and all advice and or comments.... |

Re: brake clicks
Hmm... sounds a bit over my head here. Not sure what you mean. Clicks.
So the brake pads are backing away from the rotors instead of engaging on them? Or are they engaging and then backing away too far? If thats the case it does sound like you have a possible master cylinder failure. Check to see if your master cylinder is holding pressure. Or you have a leak somewhere. But thats my professional shot in the dark.

Re: brake clicks
did you recently replace your brake pads? or they could just be getting old.... it's most likely the shims in there that have deteriorated over time and are allowing the pads to rattle... my old 86z did that like crazy..

Re: brake clicks
pads have less than 600 miles have done it since the rebuild (all lines hoses pads and rotors replced). It seems as though the brake pads are looseing there tension on the rotor once the pedal is released. I ordered a set of 10 residual check valves. Hopefully that will do the trick.. and not cause too much drag on my rotors...
AllI was wondering is should I have 2psi or 10psi in my brake lines at all times.... I really need to stop sometimes....lol |

Re: brake clicks
new pads don't mean shit if you didn't replace the shims.
if you really are having pressure issues, don't fuck around with bandaid fixes... find the problem and fix it properly... you sound quite a bit like a 'stephenp' that was around here sometime ago.

Re: brake clicks
Boy I think we had this conversation before... I always forget my logins... we are one in the same.. as in I'm stephenp.........
But no one answered me where the proportioning valve is... so I'm installing my own inline....... |

Re: brake clicks
i would assume they're in the master cylinder... which is what you should be replacing
