Fuel overflow

Had my 97 Grand Voyager for a couple months now.
Noticed that when I tried to top off the fuel tank, it would overfill easily.
Then tonight, the tank overfilled just using the auto-stop at the pump. Splurted fuel all over the ground.

Anyone else? Is there a fix?

Re: Fuel overflow

Fill at the slowest speed as you approach full. As soon as you hear it starting to bubble in the filler neck stop, as that is as full as you want it anyway in the summer.

Re: Fuel overflow

Been on this and other forums for 3+ years and don't recall a thread about your problem. If it's doing it just about every fillup at multiple pumps you have a problem. For now, looks like your only alternative is as Stretch58 suggests. Beyond that I would inspect the filler tube and tank for kinks or dents. Maybe the van was in an accident you don't know about. If all else fails take it to a trusted mechanic.

This may be "out there" but, could your EVAP system be overpressurising or something else is trapping pressure in the tank? That's just a wag you could ask a mechanic about.

Re: Fuel overflow

Good day

Had the same problem with my DG 96.
I found the vapor return line close to the main filing line is badly corroded .
Either you change the filing line which is expensive or replace the corroded area with a rubber hose suitable for fuel.

Re: Fuel overflow

on our 2004 when you fill up and it shuts off thats it don't even think about getting any more in it will overflow . First vehicle i have had that does this usually you can get another $1 into the tank before it shuts off for good .
