Best paint stripper/remover for the uk market?

Hi guys.

I know im guilty of not posting at all really. Ive just had a very long break from modeling and slowly easing my way back in. Currently working on a revell ducati 994 1/9th scale, awful kit but great detail.

Anyways I read alot about the amazing Castrol Super clean but I don't think its available over here in the uk (correct me if im wrong):

So my question is what is available (in the uk) and safe enough to use?

Also can I get CSC in the uk if so where?

Thanks in advanced.

And just a side note: A big thks to Steve at hiroboy, ive recently been ordering a few essentials from his site and his service and prices are top notch. First uk based supplier (that I know of) for all the stuff modelers really need. Thumbs up!!!

Thks

KEF

The best stripper is Isopropyl alcohol. You can get it on Hiroboy's site.It comes in a litre can.Pour the contents into a container with a sealed lid.Immerse the parts you want to strip into the container and seal the lid.Keep checking at regular intervals and also scrub the parts with an old toothbrush.Once the paint has softened it's just a simple case of scrubbing it off with the toothbrush. It will strip all types of paint including lacquers, enamels, acrylics, all the popular model makers paints.I have a 'bath' of the stuff sat on my workbench and when things go wrong you can simply toss the offending part into the bath to strip it.It doesn't harm the plastic at all,I've even used it on clear parts with no problems.

Re: Best paint stripper/remover for the uk market?

I always use brake fluid (on plastic parts - it can damage resin). Seems to take off all paint that I use, including Tamiya acrylic which is about the most awkward to shift. It does slightly etch (& discolour) the plastic, but this just gives more 'tooth' for the next coat of paint to hang on to!

Have to admit I've never tried it on clear parts, so don't know what effect it would have on them.

The safest paint remover available is actually Aztek Airbrush cleaner.

Non toxic, no nasties in it at all, I've been told you could even drink it without anything really nasty happening to you.

Buy the large 32oz bottle for about £8 and immerse the parts in there overnight, maybe a little longer.

Removes paint from plastic without affecting it and I have been told it removes paint from clear plastic windscreens without affecting it.

Hey Paul, the moon's blue!!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. But just in case anyone is dull enough to actually think about drinking airbrush cleaner - don't!! If it removes paint from anything, it goes without saying that it has 'some kind' of solvent in it. And you don't want any kind of solvent swilling round in your stomach really. Do you?? Well, I don't anyway!!

Definately words of wisdom. But I myself have been observed to drink alcohol (not isopropyl!) on occasion....
