Bad motor?

Ok, here's what's going on, I own a 95 civic 1.6 MT, and it's running great until I lose the remote for the alarm. I end up getting it towed to an alarm specialist who programs a new remote, but the car's not starting. They took out the starter kill, and the cars still not starting. All it's doing is making a loud whining noise, thats the starter comming out and spinning, I know this because I observed it. The motors not seized because the fly wheel moves while the car is in gear, jump starting doesn't work, but I still get power to everything, and when me and my buddy tried popping it, it stuttered and stopped. I really don't wanna bring it to a mechanic, any ideas?

Re: Bad motor?

hows the condition of the flywheel? if the starter is trying to engage but not touching any teeth, then all it will do is spin.. check the teeth on the flywheel

Re: Bad motor?

but the starter is moving out and contacting the flywheel? does the flywheel turn when trying to start it? do you have fuel getting to the engine? what about spark?

Smile Re: Bad motor?

check your timing belt usually loud whining noise is the starter has no load on it which means the top end of motor isnt spinning. if not the belt check distibutor spark or maybe fuel pump for distibutor pull a wire off the cap and hold it close to point on cap if no spark then disributor is not firing now keep in mind if timing belt is off then the valves arent doing what they r supposed to do hence no compression easiest way to check belt is to take valve cover off and crank it over in 3 sec intervals if you dont then oil will splatter everywhere well good luck and let me know whats up
