Went to the track last night....

Best runs where 14.3 with my fiance in the car and my old battary *forgot the battary was in there * but yea didn't think that was to bad for just a intake on it. But i got a few ?s
**1.What rpm would be best to shift at to knock these times down?
**2.My moonroof thingy messed up a few weeks ago and i noticed alot of noise when i was hitting the end of the quarter mile and noticed it was lifting up a bit so how do i fix this i know its somthing in the turny knob lol sorry for lack of tech terms but yea....

o yeah in a few weeks 3in downpipe and full exhaust and boost controller gets put on

ADDED
RIM QUESTION
I'm thinking of switching to a lighter rim/wheel combo for track will a 16rim work? can get some that weigh 18pounds for 89$ each or i have a set of my old 20lbs eclipse wheels

Re: Went to the track last night....

Shift right around redline.

What were your 60's?

Re: Went to the track last night....

Not too bad for the extra person in the car. With the mods you have coming you could hit a high 12. That's all I have and that's what I did. But I launch from 6k-6.5k and shift at 7100 rpm. There was a guy that did a lot of testing over on 3si on what the best shift point is and came up with that it wasn't at redline. I did my own testing, and redline is the way to go for me (could just be driver difference, i'm not the best).

Re: Went to the track last night....

if we shift at redline wouldnt we go past our powercurve and actually start loosing boost past 6800? thats what i was told so just aim for like 6600 6700

Re: Went to the track last night....

Heres the issue. If you shift too early then guess what happens... you bog. By shifting at redline your RPMs will fall a lesser amount once the shift is completed and you will be that much closer to hitting your power curve.

Re: Went to the track last night....

the best run i ever made(never went to a real track) was around 13.7-8 just me, launch at 6500, and shifted at said number. this was only after having the car for a month, and it was my first stick, so i wasnt all that good, maybe better now

Re: Went to the track last night....

16's wont fit on a 2g TT. Being 2g your options are limited on rims.

As for your times, reaction times arent important. We need your 60's. Those are huge when it comes to ET's.

Re: Went to the track last night....

Yes don't pay attention to the R/T, it doesn't factor into your time. The 60' time will tell you how well you launched.

Re: Went to the track last night....

Yeah, what htey said. My first time at the track, I was so focused on R/T and some random guy in the pits kept telling me he had a stealth, and I should dump the clutch...I did, and I kept bogging bad. All in all 4 14.1s and one 14.3 pass later and I realized I either sucked at driving or was doing something wrong. Took my time, let a miata beat me outta the hole, slipped the clutch ~4.5rpms and ran a nice 13.6 or something like that. (I'm drunk, so don't quote me) but it was around there...raped the miata, gave my boys the finger as I cruised down the return lane, and ended the night on a nice note.

I actually like to practice launching at 2am at redlights. Provided the cops don't see me, it always puts a smile on my face

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Went to the track last night....

hell, why wait till 2 am? as long as you don't break traction, and don't launch and accelerate past the speed limit, that can they do?

Re: Went to the track last night....

Ticket you for exhibition of acceleration...if you launch, and if you don't...how are you practicing launching, by not launching???
