Cool 91 Town Car

Engine won't crank and turn over when trying to start. Dash Board lights go out as if bad connections on battery. All clean and tight.
Replaced starter and solenoid four years ago.
Could the ignition switch be faulty?
Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this problem?
Thanks

Re: 91 Town Car

I dont have a 91 but I would check for a burned fuse and then a loose connection. If the starter was changed possibly a clip was broke off and the connector came loose. Good luck

Re: 91 Town Car

On the 91 there are two solenoids, one on the inside of the fender and one on the starter. I would suspect those if you bat is good. You could try giving the starter a light tap, it could also be the problem.

Starts when I turn key to run position

When I put the key in the run position on the ignition switch and also jump across the starter soleonid terminaks on the inside fender. the starter works and the engine starts. I used a screwdriver across the two large lugs that have 12 volts to them in the run position and volla, It starts!!!

I checked the voltage between ground and the little red wire when turning the key to start and I get 10 volts.

Could this be the starter soleonid that I replace a few years ago? I guess I could replace it and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice to get this sorted out.

Re: 91 Town Car

I had a similar issue with my 92 and it was the starter.
