so only when the little geo sits for more then 5 hours, i go to start it and the belt thats on the alternator starts to screech and smoke, it only last about 5 sec. but today after bingo it screeched for a good 20 sec. and it smells like burning rubber, I checked the tension it was pretty tight, and the belt seems to be in good shape, my heater/air stopped working alittle bit ago and thats around when the squealing started, however not sure if its related,,, please help any basic suggestions or tips will be greatly apprechiated,,, thanks
one more thing I checked and it feels like there are no teeth on the inside of the belt, not sure if there is suppose to be.... thanks for all your help1992 geo metro, basic, no sweet extra options 180k

Just install a new belt and tighten it properly.

I found a temporary fix, I just sprayed some murphy soap on it, and the squealing stopped, really neat!

Check that you have two (2) alternator mounting bolts on the bottom and one (1) on top. It is common for there to only be one (1) mounting bolt on the bottom and one (1) on top for some reason, which is incorrect and results in the alternator pulley being slightly cocked.
