Belt Tensioner Movement

Hi. Should the tensioner pulley on my wife's '02 Malibu w/ 3.1L V6 be moving back and forth when the engine is running? Has anyone else noticed this and, if so, is it normal?

Thanks.

Re: Belt Tensioner Movement

A bit of movement should be Ok. Lots of movement probably means the tensioner is fatigued and you need a new one. If you push on the belt and the tensioner moves it’s probably time to change it
