Interchangability on MKIII Supra

So I am looking into buying a mkIII supra. I am thinking I want a 91. I currently have a subaru which I have nicknamed the lego car because I can swap almost anything from another year subaru into mine. So my question is, how interchangable are these supras? I have started doing my research and havent really found much on this issue. Whats the best choice? Whats a figure on how much it will run me? I know I am going to buy a 5speed seeing as how I dont know how to drive an automatic

Re: Interchangability on MKIII Supra

The MK III ran from 86.5-92. There was a revision in 89 that includes a new front valance, some electrical changes, and a new front sub-frame. You can swap from 7MGE (non turbo) to 7MGTE (turbo engine) is fairly easy, but it is easier to buy a turbo model to begin with. The 7MGTE is prone to head gasket failure, so installing a metal head gasket is a must. Other engines such as the 2JZGTE from the MKIV Supra or the 1UZ V8 from the 400 series Lexus cars can be swapped in, but it takes a fair bit of work and some fabrication to make it happen.
