Left Turn Signal

I have replaced both bulbs but the left turn signal does not blink. It stays on and is steady. Same thing happens when the hazards are turned on. Any one have any ideas on how to fix?

Re: Left Turn Signal

Two possible things, 1; weak battery charge, it's not probably this as you would have other problems like starting or, 2; the relay for the left hand side is stuck.

Re: Left Turn Signal

Any idea on how to unstick the relay? Or is it easier to replace it? I'm not certain where it is in the car, although I assume it is near the fuse box under the dash?

Re: Left Turn Signal

Replace it, the're just a push fit so it's easy and also a sealed unit so you can't work on them.

Re: Left Turn Signal

Are you absolutely sure that every bulb, including the tail light bulbs, on the left side is in working order? Which bulbs did you replace, front or back?

Re: Left Turn Signal

I'm suspicious of the flasher (relay), but since BOTH hazards and blinkers are malfunctioning, then I'm also suspicious that a bulb may have a short. The hazards and blinkers operate off separate flashers and the odds of both of them simultaneously going bad is minimal.

If all the bulbs are found to work, then replace the flashers (~$3 each) and troubleshoot from there. To replace: remove hush panel under column, look up under column and to each side. Each side there should be a small aluminum or plastic cylinder about the diameter of a quarter. Remove both, they should have two electrical prongs in a V shape. Reverse procedure to replace.

Re: Left Turn Signal

A short across a bulb would blow the the fuse, and a short from another system would mean the fault would only occur when that other system is on. If your like most and leave your heater and radio on it may be worth switching them off.

Re: Left Turn Signal

I have a similar problem with a 97. I thought I had it all corrected since I replaced the turn signal relay. All bulbs light up fine. Took it in for inspection all passed. Two days later the left turn bulbs on the front won't flash. They all come on fine and the left rear flasher works brakes work but the front left just won' t flash. Emergency flasher works all bulbs flash except front left.
Can't see how it is a bad ground or even a short since the bulbs light up proberly. Like I said I replaced the relay worked for awhile and now it don't!?

Re: Left Turn Signal

Well we took the cover off under the steering column and droped the wires. Checked the flasher relays and wiring for damage/corrosion. Then tried it again and it all worked. Put it back together and it still works. Kind of strange. There must be a pinched wire under there that somehow loses contact causing the signal from delay to be cut off.
