Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

Hey guys its been awhile but, I'm in need of some good advice here. About 3 months ago my car was dropped off at Extreme Motorsports in Odenton, MD. Many of you I'm sure have heard of the place. They have a pretty good reputation and some extremely fast DSMs have came out of there.

However, my car was dropped off there 3 months ago because, a rod was knocking and I was in need of a new bottom end. They said they could just build me a forged 2.3 stroker bored 20 over. How could I refuse? So a couple weeks went by and they told me the motor was done at the machine shop but they just didn't pick it up yet. So after about 7-8 weeks they finally told me my motor was back at their shop and they were going to begin working on it because all the needed parts where there. Weeks went by and they kept telling me that they are kinda slow and backed up and there was a car in front of me. Kept calling kept getting the same response or something similiar(people on vacation/sick/other cars getting pushed in quick). It has almost been 3 full months now and I am told the new block has rods, pistons, and crank. My old built head needs to be put on the new block and the new motor needs to be dropped into the car Shaun told me this 2 weeks ago when I showed up to see my car. Unfortunatly he wouldn't let me go in the back where they work for policy reasons. Since then Shaun(owner) has dodged a phone call or two. I still have no real date to as when my car will be done.

Am I over reacting by being pissed off or do I need to take some more steps here? There are not many well known dsms shops around me but, if needed I can show up with a trailer and a truck and just tow it somewhere else. Thoughts? Comments?

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

They gave me an estimate of $6,400 total for the job. I gave them a 50% downpayment before they started.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

God DAMN I would be pissed. Three months and not a god damn thing to show for it?! If I were you, I would go raise hell for sure. Thats one whole summer they fucked you out of and they have $3200 of yours besides. There is absolutely no reason your car wasnt done within a month. Yes,it would take a day or two to tear it down, machining will take some time, then a couple days to do the build, and a couple days to get it in. With shit happening and retards doing the wrenching, I could totally see it taking 3-4 weeks, but 3+ months is ludicrous.

Heres what I would do. Get worked up into a huge, pissed off mood and go over there. Demand to see your car and its progress, and tell him you want take any of the "policy" bullshit. I would tear his ass a little about how you are a paying customer and a big one at that and that how the FUCK dare he "slip cars in" for 3 months. Tell him you want your shit by a reasonable date X and leave. If he doesnt have it done by then tell him you want your shit and your money back or that you are not paying full price. Seriously dude, dont let yourself get walked all over.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

6400?

Are you kidding me?

What kind of parts are they putting in there? Crap made out of adamantium?

What you need to do is go down there and tell them to show you your car. They can't not let you see your car because of "policies" It's your fucking property, they have no right to withold it from you. Also tell them what Thor said. If it isn't done in X amount of time, that you want your shit put back together and in once piece. And you want your money back.

This is a fucking outrage. The fact that they treat you like this, and then they seriously really ripped you on the price.

When I took my car to get built, I had then build the motor in the shop at first. With all the parts. maching and what not just for the motor was a little over 2k. I put the motor in and had a catastrophic head failure(not related to the build) I returned it to the shop because I didn't feel like rebuilding it. And for them to rebuild it (including tearing it out of the car and putting the motor back in) was only 3k.

Your getting a basic rebuild how in the world does that come to 6k?

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

I will deffinatly look into the BBB. The motor build is no where near a normal rebuild though. Everything forged good to about 900hp at the crank. Here is the invoice I recieved 3 months ago with my downpayment of 3,200.

SHORTBLOCK
1 Misc Eagle 100mm 7-Bolt Crankshaft 750.00
MANLEY 14403-4 Manley Performance Forged I-Beam Rods Turbo Tuff
Design (Mitsubishi 7-Bolt) 725.00
ARIAS Mitsu .866"... Arias Piston Set for 2G/EVO .866 pin, 3.366" (+.020") w/
L2 pins--- STROKER 575.00
RMS 4G63 SHOR... Mitsubishi 4G63 Shortblock Machining Package, includes
bearings 1,600.00
1 RMS Oil Pump 7-B... Oil Pump, Mitsubishi 4G63 7-Bolt 249.99
1 Misc Gasket set, complete 250.00
1 Misc 4-Cylinder Break In Package 75.00
Shop Labor Remove engine, disassemble engine, dispose of shortblock.
Clean remaining parts, assemble shortblock, reinstall into
vehicle. 2,000.00
1 MITS 1840006 Mitsubishi Crankshaft Trigger Plate, DSM 1995-1999 12.29
1 Environmental Environmental/ Shop Fee 25.00
TAP EXHAUST MANIFOLD FOR EGT PROBE
Install supplied Head-- comp cams (272 eq), BC Springs, retainers

Keep in mind they are also installing the motor for me. The invoice is dated 6/21 about a week after I gave them the downpayment. I didn't recieve a call or email today so Monday they are recieving a phone call. I am also looking into a consulatation with a lawyer if this doesn't soon get worked out.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

That sucks man. If it was my car , I would gather up some of my hefty boys and walk up in there and take my car back but i'm a bad boy and that usually leads to legality issues lol. Hopefully you can get it worked out.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

I will never understand how shops pull shit like that, especially with 50% down...? That really is outrageous. Goes to show that even if you do have the money, it's good labor that can be the limiting factor some times.

Not to be a dick but are you fucking retarded? Manley rods and Arias pistons with a brand new Eagle crank all into a brand new Mitsu block? What are you building a nitro-injected funny-car running 4 T-70 turbos? You're wasting sooo much money by putting just those parts in, and I bet you don't even come close to the power thresh-hold that that shit can handle. While you're throwing money away, why don't you send some this way so I can finish my car too.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

Well the not being a dick part didn't work out for you. This is actually the build I was going to go with adventually. Shaun says its good for 800-900hp at the crank. I plan on a big turbo upgrade and most likely a hefty shot of nitrous. The goal with the current turbo is 400awhp on pump and 450awhp on race. After I reach that the new goal with a bigger turbo will be 600awhp on pump. Unlike times before I will be able to get in my car everyday with a good bit of hp and not worry about the motor fucking me over. Don't worry the new build for the top end and drivetrain are already in the planning stages too. This is no longer a "little" hobby. So not to be a dick but, get your own money.

How big are you going on the turbo? You have some pretty loftly goals, are you just going to turn your eclipse into a track car?

Aside from your upgraded pistons/rods and crank(I only paid 250 for mine) your build is exactly the same as mine. The number just seems a little fishy to me, especially the maching cost. I'll have to pull my invoice and take a look though maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Re: Problems with Extreme Motorsports !HELP!

I am not sure what size turbo I will upgrade too yet. Right now I'm focused on just getting my car back. I would like to keep the eclipse a street legal car though. I don't think this should be much of a problem though.

That would deffinatly be cool if you could look up your invoice for me. I realize the price may be a bit high but, like I said they aren't just building the motor for me they are also putting it in the car then dyno/tuning it for me so I can put a 1,000 mile break in on it. Then after the break in they are going to tune the car for me to max flow of the turbo or untill knock becomes a problem. All this is included in the price.

Yeah I just kinda worries me because like I said before I paid 2k for my build (althought I pulled the motor myself and put it in myself) And In that 2k invoice it has eagle piston, JE rods, a new stock 2.4 crank, and all the machine work.

I took my car to them a second time for a rebuild, and it cost me 3k including them removing and replacing the motor.

The machining costs were what really stood out when I looked at cost. Especailly since all they do for a stroke is Bore & Hone the block (change the plugs as well) and balance the crank/pulleys, than put the whole thing in a huge big parts washer. I don't think I'm missing anything, and that defiantely is not 1600 bucks in work.

But like I said, I'll take a look at my invoice and let you know how your's compared to mine. And I'll keep the dyno tuning in mind.
