On my way home today my "service 4wd" message came on. Don't know what the problem would be. Please help!

Re: 4WD Light

i was doing some reading in a book and it said to shut off the engine and then start it back up and see if the message comes back on. i did so and it stayed off. but does that mean that there is something wrong???

Re: 4WD Light

If the "service 4wd" light came on there should be a code stored in the 4wd component memory. It's really the only way to tell what happened.

By the way, what year, model & engine?

Re: 4WD Light

Today at work i pulled the codes that should be in the system and there was none. So i am guessing that is not a problem or if there was then it was a false problem. The Truck is a 2004 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the 5300 vortec engine.

Re: 4WD Light

OK that's a good thing. However, if the light comes back on again check it for codes while it's on and active. Hope you're using a scanner that's capable of accessing the 4WD system.
