Recharging A/C .. Need Help

I have a 96 Chevy Lumina and I trying to recharge the a/c .. I have the connector and the cars of the right refregerant .. Thing Is the I dont hear the compressor kick on, and from what Im told I cant input new cans unless the compressor is on .. Ive also heard that you can jump something on the compressor to get it to kick on for re-filling purposes .. Beofre I make a Total A** Of Myself .. I rather humble myself and ask for help..

If anyone has some helpful hints .. Please point me in the right direction ..

Thanx In Advance ..

You can put it in with the compressor off...it should kick on once the pressure is distributed through the system. It won't go in very fast, and will only go in until the pressure equalizes with the can, so if the comp doesn't start you'll have a partially discharged can...close the tap before disconnecting it...

If the comp has to be jumped you can shunt the two connectors at the low pressure switch together to force it to run. I don't jump them unless they won't start with a can being tapped into them...not supposed to run without refrigerant...that's the whole idea behind the low pressure switch to begin with.

Try it without jumping first, put the system on MAX connect a can and let it flow...after a minute or so the compressor will probably kick in...

I put the first can in inverted, can upside down. Seems to help, don't ask me why...spraying the condensor with cold water from a hose seems to speed things up as well...creates better suction in the low side.

do as jeff said, just put the r134 to it.. dont try and jump the low coolant switch, its a 3 prong and it will stall the engine.. if you need to jump do it at the compresseor.. i know i was thru it a few months ago..the 134 will go in real slow ...have the engine runing..
