99 cougar steering

My daughter has a 99 cougar and she informed me that everytime it rains her steering will either lock up or get very hard to turn. My first thought is the belt maybe sliping when it gets wet, is there anything else I may need to check. Thanks

Re: 99 cougar steering

That seems to be the only problem it could be. Try putting on a new belt for starters, Get a Gator brand belt they are really nice and sound cool. I think they are about $50-60.

If its still doing it then the pully tensioner is probably bad. In which case you would unblot it and put a new one on.

To install the new belt you would need a long handeled 3/8 drive ratchet. Plug it into the Tensioner and set the ratchet to tighten and pull. It will retract and boom, very simple.
