NO Radio
I pulled out my 6 disc CD changer to clean it and now after I installed it the radio has no power. The fuse is okay and the power was off when I un-installed it and installed it. The only thing connecting the two is the harness. Can anyone help?

Re: NO Radio
Welcome to the forum!
So you don't get a clock or anything? You're sure the battery is not dead (ie: the vehicle starts)? If you turn the headlights on with the instrumentation illumination turned up, do the buttons on the radio light up? What year is your Mountaineer? Does it have the in-dash changer or the console-mounted changer? Have you verified that everything that you disconnected got re-connected? Not just a "Yeah, I plugged everything back in" but actually pull the deck/changer and make sure there are no disconnected or not fully seated plugs. -Rod |

Re: NO Radio
Thanks for the welcome. I have read this forum a lot and it is really helped me so I am very glad to be aboard. It is a 97 Mountaineer with the JBL stereo changer in the center console. I have no clock,no radio and no power. The lights on the dash work and the backlights for the radio work but no radio. I checked for fully seated plugs and everything is correct. I took out the entire center console to check bolt on the main plug that runs through the console and everything checks. I can't see how unplugging the changer has lost the power to the radio.

Re: NO Radio
Looks like you should check fuses 20 (7.5A), 28 (7.5A) and 29 (25A) in the instrument panel fuse panel. Fuse 34 (7.5A) in the same panel is for the CD changer and rear control panel, but is not directly tied to the radio.
If all of these fuses are good, the next step may be to pull the radio and determine if the proper voltages are getting to the radio connector. If you find that some of the voltages are not there or low, then disconnect the CD changer connector and see if that corrects things. If so, there is probably a short associated with the changer. -Rod |
