Language Bar won't go away
Somehow or another, the "language bar" has become a toolbar on my taskbar. I don't know how, but fine, its there... i want it off. I've turned it off many times, but it seems to find its place there again after every reboot. Is there a secret way of tricking windows into actually doing what i tell it to?
Edit: while i'm at it, I also mistakenly deleted my Windows Explorer icon from my desktop. How do i get it back? I would also like to get rid of <y Documents from my desktop, but like the language bar, it keeps coming back... damn roaches. (reason for wanting "Windows Explorer" over "My Documents" on my desktop is that Explorer opens up to My Docs in Folder View, while My Documents opens up to My Docs in Icon View)

Re: Language Bar won't go away
To get rid of the language bar
Open Control Panel, Regional and Language Options Go to the Languages tab, click on Details, go to the Advanced tab and select Turn off advanced text services. OK and OK. To get rid of My Documents from the desktop Open Control Panel, Display Go to the Desktop tab, select Customize Desktop De-select My Documents. OK and OK. To restore a shortcut to Windows Explorer on your desktop Right click the Start button and select Explore Click Tools, Folder Options Go to the View tab, click Apply to All Folders Now whenever you open My Computer it should open in the Windows Explorer view.

Re: Language Bar won't go away
Hmm...try applying both changes and rebooting. If they're still f*cking up, check the System logs for errors about unloading your local registry hive - that's probably what's causing the change not to stay.
Clean out your registry with something like Registry Mechanic if this is the case.

Right-click the My Documents folder and select Explore - My Docs will open with Explorer. or A quick and dirty way to put a Windows Explorer shortcut on your desktop: 1) Browse to your Windows system folder (usually it's C:\WINDOWS). 2) In your system folder right-click on the file called EXPLORER.EXE. 3) Select "Send to", then select "Desktop (create shortcut)". |
