Rusty oil pan

Just bought this 2001 Mazda 626 v6 auto about three months ago. Has 50k miles on it and like new. Now I was under it the other day changing the oil and find out the oil pan is badly rusted and no paint left on it even. We have snow and salt on the roads in the winter here but am wondering if this is common with Mazda . If so, what have you fellows been using to rectify the problem? I thought about just painting it but figure the oil gets pretty hot and would probably just peel off.................

Re: Rusty oil pan

Thanks guys, Im thinking its not hard to get off, the next time I change the oil I might just put it on the bench and see what I can do with it. Oil pans shouldent rust out!.....But I guess some do. Just a thought , I had a Ford 150 pickup once and the oil pan rusted and Ford now owns Mazda. You think there is a connection???

He would have been much better off if he would have replaced the whole Ford
