1997 F150 4x4 4.2 AT engine removal

Removing bad motor. I have loosened all but the engine to trans bolts. Can,t get to the top ones. How do I get the clearance to get my hands and tools in there? I have the throttle body air plenum removed.

Either drop the transmission tail down or pull the transmission. I usually pull the trans. with the engine. Either way you still have to remove the transfer case first.

I feel sure my 4.2L has crankshaft/rod problems. Can I pull the intake manifold and heads to get clearance to remove the top two engine to trans bolts. Pull the old block. Then intall a remanufactured short block. Bolt it to the trans then install the heads and intake.

Maybe but there is still not much room. Make sure you unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel befor you pull the engine.
