fan clutch reprogram
Can't say my fan clutch is really bad, just not efficient. I have noticed a few of the symptoms like: a/c blows hot until vehicle is moving; fan stays on for a while in city traffic when extremely hot outside (it's been 105+ here for a week), goes off once air is moving through it good. I was wondering if a simple PCM update for this would solve these issues? I know eventually I will end up replacing the fan....was hoping to wait until it cools off a little here. No SES light, however the GM service dept says they use tech 2 scans and will show codes that are stored without a SES light. I'd like to know if the program update would be worth the $90 labor for an hour to reprogram? Thanks in advance

Re: fan clutch reprogram
Didn't help on my TB, I wound up replacing it at 60k it was locked up. Sounds like yours is working normally for now.

Re: fan clutch reprogram
Yeah for now I suppose. I will go ahead & replace mine in the fall regardless. Lots of DIY tips from you & others on here, shouldn't be a prob. Getting close to 63k now. If you come accross the updated GM part # in your travels on here, pass it along please. Thanks for both replies.

Re: fan clutch reprogram
The GM replacement part is the latest one available, I used a Carquest part, made overseas of course, seems ok though.

Re: fan clutch reprogram
I just replaced the fan clutch on my 02 TB after it locked up. There is a TSB that calls for a PCM reflash when the updated GM part is used. Reason for reflash was a complaint that AC not cool enough at low speed/idle, and the flash would kick it on more at idle speeds. I replaced with an aftermarket part, but did not do the reflash, and I cannot tell any difference. This is an easy DIY if you get the good fan clutch holding tool from NAPA.
