Transmission problems renegade 2003

I was wondering if my transmission could be slipping because when the jeep is cold on the dip stick it is showing way over the hot mark? It isnt really bad at this point only sometimes will it slip or once actually it wouldnt go into park. I am a female that doesnt know much about cars and would really appreciate some thoughts on this question not sure what to do and dont want to be raked over the coals at a garage, college student here.
Thanks for the help
Dannie

Re: Transmission problems renegade 2003

The only time you need check the fluid level is when it is hot and running in neutral (emergency brake on please.) The slip may be due to low fluid, you will find out when checked. Best thing is to swing it by a service station, and if they are worth their salt they will check it for free. The not going into park issue is not caused by your fluid level it would be something else.
