1990 Wrangler Bucking

My husband has a 1990 Jeep Wrangler V6 4.2 L (manual transmission) with Carburator. When driving it starts to buck and loses gas pressure. Is this the fuel pump? He has been thinking about replacing the carburator as well. Also when he starts the jeep he has to pump the gas around 7 times before starting. Especially bad in winter. Could this be the carburator? Have spent a lot of money in this jeep and getting frustrated. Already replaced filter. Replaced plugs and wires last year.

FIrst, need to clarify just what engine and model year the jeep is. The problem you describe could be a fuel issue. If you are loosing fuel pressure than the problem would lie with the pump or whatever is controling it. If you do indeed have a carb. than replacing it won't fix the problem, look at your mechanical fuel pump. Should be on the ps of the block, with it running is there fuel coming out of the vent hole, or when you check the oil does the oil smell like gas and not feel very slippery? ALso you could have the float in the carb that is hanging up, shutting the flow of fuel off. This could be caused by crud that has gotten pass the filter and is in the fuel bowl. As far as it hard to start in the winter, that could be a choke setting issue. PLease clarify for sure what engine and fuel system you have to properly assist you with a possible solution.
