Well, I have posted stuff about this in the past, but I figured I would do this again in a new post since I have done a few things since the last one.
1)Had low oil pressure, now its better with new oil pump (is this relevent? i dont know, just figured i would say)... 2)Had overheating problem, it got better after fan relay was installed, but didnt fix the problem... 3)Had overheating problem, I think it got better after a new thermostat was installed (the old one was stuck open)... 4)Still had over heating problem, seemed to be the fan clutch because it would only get hot when it was really hot outside and sitting still, after i started driving it would go back after a while, plus the fan would spin a few times after shutting it off. OK, well now that I have said that... It still overheats. I noticed that it may not do it when the A/C is off. It gets up to about 220 driving and when i stop it goes up to 250-260 fast. I drive for a few blocks or maybe a mile and it goes back down to 220 fast. Sometimes i can sit still with A/C on and it will be fine, but most of the time it overheats. 260 is the actual engine temp, it was tested with an IR thermometer. The radiator seems to be fine, new thermo, new fan clutch, new fan relay, electric fan runs, im not losing any coolant and the overflow jug may fill up, but it goes back down to normal later. I dont know what the problem is. I am going to try a radiator flush and maybe even a new radiator. If that doesnt work, I guess somehow it could be my water pump, but that would be strange. Could it be the belt? Does anyone have any advice or ideas what my problem may be? Thanks |

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
Did you actually change the fan clutch?
You might want a radiator shop to clean out you radiator. You can also upgrade it with a higher capacity one. |

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
yeah, changed the fan clutch. thats what im going to do next, get a shop to flush out the radiator and maybe get a high capacity one then later, when i save up more money im gonna get a tranny cooler to take some stress off the radiator

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
make sure electric fan is operating right it may be on low and not switching to higher speeds. that is not uncommon to have happen. do you have the belt on right? is the water pump any good

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
Couple of things, I don't know what year jeep you have but on the older models like my 92 the tranny cooler was built inside the radiator which causes the radiator not to cool as efficiently as it should. An after market radiator and externally mounted tranny cooler has fixed that problem for alot of people. Another thing you can try is running a good cooling system cleaner and radiator flush through the system and then flushing the entire system until it's nothing but nice clear water coming out (make sure to have the heater on to flush out the heater core as well). Then refill with a 25-75 AF to water mixture and add a bottle of water wetter to the system. I used to have the problem with overheating like you do and flushed the entire system then filled with water only and a bottle of water wetter and now no matter how long i sit in traffic with outside temps of around 104 the temp level never goes past half way. When winter gets closer I'll drain a little water out and add some antifreeze of course but during summer it's straight water and water wetter. Just a couple of things for you to think about that might help you out.

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
I think the electric fan is only one speed.
It comes on when you turn the AC on and when the radiator exceeds a certain temperature with the AC off. It always comes on with the AC. |

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
yeah, my electric fan is good, heck, since its so hot it basically starts running within minutes of it being on.
i finally sold my f150 so im getting a good aftermarket radiator and maybe even a nice water pump. that should fix it. im also getting rotors, which i need cause it squeels with new brake pads, and a new window motor, then i should be set. |

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
ah ha... I finally got it cooled off. I was tired of messing with it and since I had some extra money I went and did what I knew would fix it.
Bought a new heavy duty high flow radiator, new high flow water pump, and a new thermostat housing from HESCO. These guys have great high quality parts. Look them up. I also added a tranny cooler. Now even in the hottest days sitting at a red light or in traffic it never goes over 210 and it stays under 200 while driving. Before it was 220+ and after a few minutes at a light it would go up to 260. Now I have to fix a new problem I found, lol, but now it is a COOL XJ |

Re: Running Hot STILL AHHH
I had a similiar problem and I found the air conditioner radiator cooling fins were 75% folded over. This wouldn't allow the air to flow properly through the radiator. All I did was purchase an airconditioner fin comb and straightened them.
