Maf Replaced X2
This is a 2002 Safari AWD.
Back in June the Service Engine Soon Light came on when accelerating from a right turn onto a main Highway. Before the light came on, the van would not shift into 4th gear on the hard acceleration, only heard engine rev going up without speed changing or shift to next gear, then Engine Service Soon light came on. The dealer changed the Mass Air Flow Sensor (covered by ext warranty) and I had them change the plugs wires cap and rotor, flush the radiator and change the trany fluid ($1100 later). Now I still experience Sluggish acceleration (Engine delivers limited power under load or at high speed. Won't accelerate as fast as normal. Loses too much speed going up hills) the MAF has been change again with still no change; I was given a gas filter to change, (fuel pump sounds ok) still no change. It's at the dealer again with a MAF code and the tech experienced the Sluggish acceleration, but doesn't know what is causing the MAF code. Does anyone know what is going on? It's been at the dealer for the fourth time and has been there for two days. Now they tell me I will have to pay for Diagnostic time. what happened to Mr GoodWrench! Mine needs help.

Re: Maf Replaced X2
Sounds like a classic case of low fuel pressure. Should be 60psi (MINIMUM) to 66psi when the fuel pump is running and the engine off. It's quite common for the MAF code to show up when there is low fuel pressure.

Re: Maf Replaced X2
Day Eight sill no answer to problem. Last Friday the owner said they were changing the catalytic converter and it wouldn't be ready for the weekend and there is no loaner car available. Isn't taking my calls its now Tuesday. They checked the fuel pressure and ok, they didn’t change the catalytic converter they checked the catalytic converter by disconnecting the exhaust and same problem, it is running rich. GM field tech looked at it yesterday. they checked the three O2 sensors their OK. Now the Service Manager is saying the gas tank sock may be the problem. This Dealership is a big headache, last Monday (7 days ago) I was told the service assistant was no longer with them Tuesday (6 days ago) the Service Manager as well is gone. I talked to the New Service Manger late this afternoon said he would call me back later today, he didn’t.
to be continued….

Re: Maf Replaced X2
The gas tank sock will not cause the engine to run rich. If anything, it might cause it to run lean from fuel starvation, if it's restricted. What was fuel pressure and did it hold?

My dealer lowered the hourly rate for the diagnostics by 25%. They sent me packing with what Might be a Partially blocked catalytic converter. It was recommended I have it changed on the outside due to the markup on GM parts at the dealer. they wernt kidding I found it at NAPA for 40% less.
The acceleration problem is still their but less noticeable except now I hear the engine pinging on acceleration, going to try putting a tank full 22 of the 27 gallons of 92 octane to see if this goes away. At this point GM Customer relations are big on apologizing for my plight, but can't or just don’t care about making a customer 100% satisfied. I am planning to change the whole y pipe to the catalytic converter this weekend. To be continued... |
