running amp battery wire???
i have a 1999 chevy lumina and i am installing a 1000 watt sony amp, i was hopin to be able to do this myself, but i have run into a problem. i cannot find anywhere to snake the amp battery wire through the firewall. i do not want to drill a hole myself. so does anyone have any suggestions as to where to run this wire through?

Re: running amp battery wire???
Just a question but why don't you want to drill a hole through the firewall. If you inspect both sides of it very carefully and fully plan on where the hole will be it will make this install alot easier and future installs/upgrades easier as well. Just make sure to know what is on both sides of the firewall and get a firewall bushing or grommet to go around the cable to keep it from getting sliced into.

That is what most folks end up doing anyway. Just gotta use a grommet and some silicone also. However, there is usually a place somewhere in the vehicle where you can sneak one in. You'll have to go to the proper forum here on AF or a vehicle specific forum elsewhere for that info.

Re: running amp battery wire???
never had a lumina, or a chevy for that matter :P but on all my fords i've been able to go through the firewall all the way at the top by the driver's door and snake it through the door from the outside. the door will shut on it but it is ok. kinda hard to explain it. i have 0 guage run that way now.

Re: running amp battery wire???
It really shouldn't be all that difficult to see if there is a place to route your wire(s) on a compact car like the Lumina. Look for a set of wires under the hood coming out of the firewall. If you see a hole with wires coming out already, you could just get an 'ol wire hanger and tape your wire(s) and fish it through. I had my Saturn with a "ghetto" install for the longest time and 5 months before i got rid of it, I learned that trick.
