Which engine do you have 3.5 or 3.8?

If its the 3.5 you might find this post helpful.

If its a 3.8 the plugs are easy to find by following the wires going to them. The back ones are a little hard to get too, but the same engine rotation I mentioned in that post applies for the 3.8 as well, and it does help.

Re: How to Replace Spark Plugs for 1999 Olds Intrigue

I did my rear plugs without rotating the engine, didn't have much trouble at all - in fact the hardest thing was getting the coil packs off. I guess I had just the right combination of extensions and swivel ratchet to make it easier.

Re: How to Replace Spark Plugs for 1999 Olds Intrigue

I replace mine (2000 GL - 3.5L V6) easily without engine rotation. For the front bank used long (6") extension on my ratchet with a sparkplug socket (the kind with a rubber insert that grips the loose plug). The rear bank used same spark plug socket, short (3") extension and 1 U-Joint (swivel) socket. It is also helpful to have one of those inspection mirrors on a stick, to inspect everything prior to installing the new plugs. Mine had a lot of dirt and grit down by the spark plug holes, that I sucked out with a shopvac so it didn't interfere with the threads/torquing etc.

I agree that the hardest part was removing the coil pack, Next hardest thing was lining the rear coil pack up so everything was contained in the boots that was supposed to be.

What ever you do, don't lose one of the bolts that hold the coil packs on , you will be needing to bend over. The bolts are 7 to 8 bucks a piece.... I lost one, right now my back coil pack is missing one, no problems yet.....
