Squeeky belts
Gots a question.
First, when I got my car I had a bunch of belts replaced, timing, alt, ac,etc. etc. Well I noticed afterwards that when I ran my AC (im assuming) my AC belt would start to squeak, kinda like how that other guy described his, a cricket chirping, then once it gets goin it does that really nasty high pitched squeal which drives everyone within a mile radius nuts runaround anyways, I kinda just let it slide and didnt worry bout it much because I tend not to use my AC much anyways. Ive bought belt dressing but have yet to put it on because I dunno which belt to look for and dont have a manual. Well as of lately, the weather has been pretty damn stifiling and, well, sometimes I break down and crank up the AC to cool down. Now Im noticing when I run the AC my car starts to smoke a little. So I was wondering what the F is up with that? Then yesterday, I ran it for like 5 mins and that was it, everytime I took off afterwards it was smoking. another example, i was sitting in the pharmacy drive-thru and turned my car off because they cant ever hear me over it, and when i turned it back on, it started smoking, mind you, my AC has been off for well over an hour now. The smoke is like a light grey, not even close really to a black, and i dont smell anything either so I dunno. Anyways, what could be causing this, why wasnt it doing it before and how do I stop it? Will simply putting the belt dressing on it stop it? or is it going to be something more entailed. which i hope to God its not Thanks Guys

Re: Squeeky belts
how many miles are on your car? probably VSS (valve stem seals) that are leaking. belt squeaking and smoking are unrelated.

Re: Squeeky belts
ya, most VSS tend to go around 100k-120k. but if you're gonna swap engines soon, i wouldn't worry about it. what's the condition of the TT motor you purchased? mileage, etc?

Re: Squeeky belts
Yeah, If your doing your swap soon, no need to worry about the seals it shouldnt burn much oil anyway.
as far as the sqealling belt, do not use the dressing... yet... Most likley that belt just needs to be tightened. Its not too bad, you must take the undercovers off of the drivers side wheel well, then turn your wheel all the way to the left for rooms sake. after that you will be able to see the crank pulley along with soem other pulleys and two belts. The larger of the belts is the one with the alt. and ac on it, to adjust the tension on this belt use a 12mm wrench and tighten the bolt that sits just behind the idler pulley, this will move the pulley up and tighten the belt. Ok, now dont tighten it too uch, just a few turns at a time, then start the car and turn the ac on and see if it sqeals. If you overtighten it too much then you can afect the bearing life on all things attached to that belt and esp the alt. for pictures and a more in depth write up look on stealth316.com and vr4stealth.com on both sites go to the 60k tune up manual and they will explain tightening that belt as part of the process. Good Luck!

No problem, I just dealt with all that while doing a 60k tune.

Re: Squeeky belts
haha, It made me "lol" but really, actually out loud, not the sort of lol that you text to your freind while they are in the same room as you and can clearly see/hear that you are not in fact, laughing out loud.
that being said... Did you tighten the belt? was that the issue?
