aftermarket header

I have an '88 CRX Si, I got an aftermarket header or it a LONG time ago. My question is, was I supposed to use the shield thing that came on the stock one. I think the new header is creating so much heat it makes my A/C hoses running by the radiator leak out all the freon.

Re: aftermarket header

most people don't use the sheild. Are you sure thats whats causing your leak? are the hoses damaged? But yeah, you can use whatever sheild that will fit in there, stock included

Re: aftermarket header

That wont make it leak out unless its cooking the O rings and making them leak...and theres only on in front of the exhaust. I would use a sniffer and find the actual leak..

Re: aftermarket header

it's had those sticks put in it that glow where it leaks ... you can see little droplets around hose fitting. The header gets so hot it melted the blade off the cooling an twice in the first week, they had to relocate the A/C fan to the outside. This is not an OEM A/C unit, I originally got the car in Germany thru the military sales. Maybe I will try the tape, I have thought about that stuff.
