Code 1491
Hello All;
I have a 1998 Car-a-van . I have a code 1491. I have checked out the cooling fans. They go on and off like they should. What else could be going on to cause the fault.Buster |

Re: Code 1491
1491 is rad fan control relay: possible cause is shorted or open condition detected in the LOW speed rad fan relay.
you mention that the fans come on-off,but do they come on at the slow speed to start with or is it full speed from the get go? might want to observe that and go from there. |

Re: Code 1491
the code says its the relay circuit so you might want to check that (its in the fuse box in the engine compartment (if you didnt know)) hope it helps.

Re: Code 1491
I have checked it out again. Both fan comes on at high speed for a second and then droppes down the low speed. After a minute it goes off and then back on a minute or two later, like it should. Checked the fuse, it's good. To me everthing is working. If it had a loose wire or connection whould it still work and not show a code?

Re: Code 1491
if it seems like it's working ok I'd reset the code and see if it comes back. to do that (unless you have a scanner)you can pull the IOD fuse or the battery connections for a few min.. reconnect and see if any change.
