Whatever utilility you use to create and format the new partition will know that there is already a formatted partition on the HD. It will show you both the formatted and the unformatted partition and it will ask you which partition you want to format. Just don't screw up and tell it to format the wrong partition.

Just open my computer and it will show you both partitions but will look like seperate drives. Just select the second one right click and click on format and then make sure it's set for NTFS and just select quick format and start.

As above, you can safely format your new unformatted partition without worrying about data loss.
