playing with supras

so friday night like always i met up with 209srt and a few other buddies from some cruising... i wasn't really in the mood to RACE a lot since im sort of driving on a destroyed clutch. well no i am, in any case there wasn't a whole lot out that night so we just kinda drove around ernie with himself and a passenger in the SRT and i had two riding with me, after ernie ran i belive was an 03' SRT we made a left turn on to on of my favorite roads... no cops and a long long 3 lane stretch.

well to make this short, he and i ran across a completely stock supra... not sure what year but i know it was stick and n/a. seeing as i had never raced of these i felt compelled to see how i would hold up.
first run from a dig it ended up being ernie by like 2 1/2 cars or more on the supra after blowing off some vacuum lines and some serious traction and boucing problems the supra in front of me by less than a car and we shut down at about 80...
the second run was about the same thing
from a dig i got the jump at the light and held it for only a second, and from 0-about 90 ish i had held the supra by half a car length... and ernie was ahead of the supra by about 2 cars...(serious boost issues)
now im not sure what a supra can do stock but i was expecting more but all in all it was a good couple runs

Re: playing with supras

i think a lot of ppl overestimate supras,, especcially stock ones. the older and n/a supras are 15 or 16 second cars, and the tt's are usually good for high 13's stock. granted stock 13 second cars are not push overs, but there are plenty of stock cars that could take an un-modded supra down. correct me if i'm wrong, but supra's seem to have a "godly" and "unbeatable" reputation among the tuner scene. maybe b/c they're really rare? or really easy to mod?

anyways good run mang.

Re: playing with supras

its not that they're "godly" or anything like that but usually when you see them they are pretty decked out in the speed department. like the few around here that i've seen have been modded out the ass and are really fast so thats all. and thanks for the compliments

You're not wrong. They are both, pretty rare and are very easy to mod. The tt's are actually detuned from what I hear. Simply removing the air restrictors allows for much easier airflow. The reason they have that "unbeatable" reputation you mentioned is because many people watch a bunch of youtube videos with the 800hp+ or 1000hp+ supras and get all excited, thinking they all come like that.

Re: playing with supras

209 hit it on the head. They are the F Body of Japan. Bolt ons net good power, and the motor is capable of obscene numbers. And reliable with good numbers, too. But I dunno, all the ones in my area are still 45k-ish for stock or low miles. I don't care how good of a car it is, unless it has a Prancing Horse or Raging Bull on the hood, I ain't paying more than 10k for any car that is at least nine years old.

Re: playing with supras

supra's are mid 13 second cars if you know how to launch them, many people have problems getting them off the line correctly, but if you really know what your doing...car and driver ran it at 13.1

there really no different stock from any of the other twinturbo's of the 90's

vr4
300zx
rx7

there all pretty close at stock speeds

lol for a split second i though by "prancing horse" you meant a mustang. but yeah, I concur with that statement. altho a '97 viper is 9+ years old now and run low 12's off the showroom floor. I'd probly shell out $10,001 for one of those

Re: playing with supras

I agree with the Supra being the LS1 of the import world (at least as far as performance goes) . Very easy to make a lot of power with some bpu's. I have only seen one stock Supra around here and it was still a turbo. Seems like the rare others have obscene amounts of power. In fact, one of the guys around here is selling his and he dyno'd his at over 900bhp.

Re: playing with supras

i kno i'm obviously a little biased,, but don't LS1's have a better time putting their power to the ground than supras? i've always thought the supra was a bit of a "dyno queen." not to say a 900bhp supra isn't reDICulously fast, but wouldn't an LS1 putting down 900rwhp generally be a faster car? btw if anyone on here lives in NC and has a 900whp car of ANY type, i'd love to go for a ride

Re: playing with supras

^^^agreed. but in southern wisconsin, or northern illinois.

i forgot how that saying went about how supras are such dyno queens. something like this =

whats the difference between a 400 hp supra and a 600 hp supra? .3 seconds in the quarter

taken from clawhammers motivational poster thread:

Re: playing with supras

i heard from a friend(who loves the supra more than any other car) the the supra sucks for launching.
i saw a red 95 or 96 tt for sale last year, the guy wanted 31,500 for it. more than 3x the amount i paid for my stealth, and it had more miles. like 89,000. yea i know supra's are rare, but a person can find an NSX for cheaper than that, and it'll still b just as quick.
as for a viper, god i'd love one, the cheapest i saw was 3 or 4 wks after i boughht my stealth, 94 r/t 10, 12g, 56,000 miles. it pissed me off, i got a loan up to 20g for a car from my parents, and i ended up with a stealth(not like its a bad car) but i coulda had a viper

Re: playing with supras

o and personaly i think most japanesse cars are thought of as godly, cause the people that worship them are nieve in some way. the skyline and supra are car's that are very serious for what they were ment to b, but cars of their generation can beat them, without a problem. a mitsu gto mr will beat both in a quater mile. but a vette can with both
