Angry Technology/electronics piss me off

Interesting thing just happened. My ma just called me to the kitchen to set the clock on the microwave (power went out yesterday).

-"Why do you need the clock on the microwave?" i ask
-"I don't, but you can't use the microwave until you set the clock and date, and I can't figure it out"

WTF?! Why the f can't you use the microwave without setting the clock? Its a GE microwave, the same company that makes everything else, you think they'd be smarter.

I'm in the market for a diesel truck. I mentioned to someone who knows quite a bit about the subject that I might get a used gen3 ram. His response "Make sure it has a flawless maintenance record, the EUI injectors tend to go bad". Not a problem with the older MUI injectors. SO WHY THE F DID THEY CHANGE IT?

Hear about fuel pumps going bad all the time too. F all this. Call me old fashioned, but I want to go back to the days of carburation and analog dials on the microwave. When mechanical shit goes bad, you can see what's wrong and fix it.

I'm going to hear "its less efficient, the world is getting too polluted, we're running out of oil". Save it, if we weren't so "technologically advanced" we wouldn't need thousands of factories and plants. We wouldn't be dumping mercury into our lakes, or running air huge air conditioners, or endless mining equipment to dig up marble and granite for countertops!

Sure I carry a cell phone so people don't start yellin at me when they can't find me, but I miss the days when it was "be home by dinner", and that was the end of it. They wouldn't get mad when they couldn't track you down cuz they weren't expecting to be able to.

Yes newer technology helps save more lives from some stuff, but for every problem we find a solution for, we create 2 new types of cancer. We're all going to die of cancer. We don't even know everything people get cancer from, all we know is that the sources are increasing, BECAUSE OF TECHNOLOGY!

If you're going to argue this, please don't bother responding. I don't need leather seats and climate control, and I don't want you to try and explain how either helps the world. I'm well educated in what technology has done for us, both good and bad, and though it pisses me right off, I know there is no going back.
If you do agree with me, feel free to vent. I'd love to have more stuff to be pissed off about, even though who knows, maybe being pissed off might give me cancer too.

So, you're angry because you're too retarded to set the time on your microwave....

No, I have absolutely no problem setting the time on the microwave, other than I shouldn't have to. I am angry because MY MOM can't set the time on the microwave, and she shouldn't have to just to heat up some food. Apaprently you're too retarted to read.

What I'm basically saying is that in trying to make things more advanced, efficient, and "convenient", we are forgetting simplicity. The world is gettin too complicated for my dear old ma, and myself. And it's not because I'm having trouble keeping up, because I'm not. I just don't want to, but that's not an option anymore.

By your own admission, lazy though.

Oh, and typically you don't HAVE to set the clock.

Please don't make this into a thread about taking shots at each other, was not my intention at all and I'm sorry if it comes off as that. Just want to know if there are other people out there with similar concerns or frustrations, for themselves or for others that they know or care about.

Not lazy, just like simplicity. The microwave, the oven, the toaster oven all have clocks on them. How about they just let the wall clock do its job so I can spend more time with my nephew, instead of running around fixing the clocks on all the appliances when there is a quick drop in power? And even for the appliances that work without the clock being set, it's still going to flash at you all the time. Of course this clock thing is just a small part of it.

I don't want to, but I can deal with technology. My mom on the other hand, can no longer keep up. She needs me to look up stuff for her online all the time because she can't get a paper catalog to many places now. I understand them having one online, but I'd like them to have the old option too.

That's my point, you HAVE TO SET THE CLOCK! Can't do anything else till the clock and date are set, at least on that microwave.

This extends to cars too. I'll admit that with all the electronics that are on newer cars, I have trouble keeping up with them. I don't know if I'd be able to fix anything if I had a brand new car and something went wrong with it.

That doesn't bother you guys at all that things are not in your control anymore? That the computer and those that have full access and control over the computer (the dealer) are what controls your car, and you don't (or soon won't) have any say in what your car does? I can't be the only one out there that thinks that.

Bugger the spelling - I was referring to flaming a moderator.....

And, no it doesn't bother me. The less I have to worry about the silly shit, the more time I have to spend on the important things.

Re: Technology/electronics piss me off

I love technology, I like building computers and tweaking them. But, I hate poorly designed/documented technology!

xfeejayx, all you've done is identified a niche in the market that you're unwilling/incapable of filling - KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) electonic gizmo's for the simpleton.

Go forth, create, market, build in China, sell for a profit.

(I'll accept 10% royalties )
