Re: Ok time for dispute!

I like them both equally, though I may be a little more biased towards the E36 as an owner of one. I think the E46 is a beautiful car aesthetically, but I also love the aesthetics of my car. It is a hard choice.

Re: Ok time for dispute!

It really needs to be a personal choice. The E46 is an all around better car. Faster, better looking (IMO), and more luxurious. However, the E46 will still be at least $10,000 more then the E36. A 95' S50 M3 + the price difference in modifications will run circles around an E46. So if you intend to mod, get a E36. A 95' if you can. If you want a daily driver or don't intend to modify, get the E46. If you have ~$60,000 and some patience, get a E92 M3.

Re: Ok time for dispute!

Both are good cars but both have compromises.
E36 – The US version didn’t get the real Motorsports engine
E46 – sacrificed drivers feel for luxury

If you want a good track/daily the E36 is the way to go if you just want it for looks/status go for the E46. With each generation Motorsports is getting away from building sports tuned cars to luxury more and more. Try and find a base E46 M3 without nav and leather.
