Re: 1981 Chevy 1500 Doesn't Fire!!!
suggestions... I'd start with some lower case 12 pt. letters, perhaps black in color, and only posting once.
Doesn't fire as in no spark, or a crank no start?

Do you have power to the ignition coil?

Voltmeter, red to power, black to ground. Should have 12.6v. Also have you checked the timing?

Re: 1981 Chevy 1500 Doesn't Fire!!!
The magnetic reluctor/pickup assembly inside the distributor may be tango-uniform. You can use a voltmeter to check it, too. You will have to pull the two-wire lead from the module (this side of the module will only have two leads, as opposed to 3 or 4 with the computer connection). Set the voltmeter to the 10k OHM scale (resistance check), and touch each terminal to one of the probes. You want to see the needle near the 0-ohm mark - if the needle doesn't move (infinite resistance) or moves only partially, suspect the pickup. To replace it however, one will need to remove the distributor and press out (you can use a hammer and a punch) the roll pin that holds the gear on - and then pull the shaft up and out through the top. Have a new roll pin handy when you put it back together, and make sure it's flush with the gear once installed - nothing should stick out.

Re: 1981 Chevy 1500 Doesn't Fire!!!
I would look in to getting a wiring diagram. I cannot remember if the hot wire on those trucks is a constant hot or key on hot. If it is a constant hot try running a jumper wire from the + on the bat to the bat terminal on the coil.
