Well I read everything I could find on here about replacing the ball joints. The top one went without fuss.....I had to air chisel the rivets off, but then I can't find any rivets in the lower ones. Does this mean that they are pressed in only? If so, how do I get them out? Please don't tell me that I have to remove the lower A-frame arm and take it some where to be pressed out. And I take it that they should still be pressed out of the bottom, correct?

Re: 1999 Blazer LT and lower ball joints? Help, Please!
Well I bought the Harbour freight ball joint remover. Hmmm, lacks a lot to be desired, but I did get one side out after hours of trial and error. I will press the new one in tomorrow and then start on the passenger side. Yay, fun.

Both the top and lower ball joints are rivited on from the factory, or have a nut and bolt if the factory ones were replaced, they were not pressed on. A '99 with original ball joints....thats pretty good considering ball joints are a common part for replacement.

Well, I will have to beg to differ........the bottoms on my '99 LT are pressed in. I finally got them out and the new ones pressed in. The tops are riveted in and were fairly easy to get out with the aid of an air chisel. I broke the c-clamp press that I bought at Harbour Freight. I had to go and rent one from Advanced. That made all the difference. |
