3400 timing belt replacment

has anyone ever replaced a timing belt on a 1997 pontiac transport 3400? is it a bad job to do? any help would be great. thanks paul

mmm...there is no timing belt on the push rod 3400: this is done with a timing chain and seldom requires replacement....
only the overhead cam 3400 used in the Z-34 and Grand PRix had a timing belt...adn changing it was hell....I'm not aware that it was ever an option in the Transport..

if its a chain is it going to be rough? its back fireing in the in take and when it starts it sound out of time ive had the mod. checked its ok ive replaced the cam sencer and the crank sencer plugs and wires and still showing code p300 im i checked the coil pack and looks like the spark is week on them all. im lost. thanks miracles

What is the mileage on the engine? THis timing chain and gears was never an issue in these forums and indeed this at least is a very reliable component set on this engine....so before going in that area, I'd simply go for a compression test : this would procure clues on that issue and probably rule out this option... in spite of probabilities, it is always possible BUT: broken camshaft and broken valve stem IS an issue on that engine and again, the compression test would show that. YOur symptoms correspond to that case. I suggest removing front valve cover and see if all rockers move as the engine is cranked.

is there any knock sencers on it? it has 135.000on it it ran fine then it started to miss all at once. i drove it up on ramps it said number 3 miss fire i changed all the wires plugs. thats when it wouldnt start .then when i put computer back on it said mulitple miss fires. i was told it could be a bad computer in the van ? im lost ill try what you said soon thanks for the help miracles

i think i found my prob. it looks like the cam shaft broke. has anyone ever replaced one????
