steering column repair

I have a 1990 v6 3.1 lumina wich has a steering problem the upper shaft wobbles i can get down only to the metal cover after that im stuck and this is where the problem is i believe the steering wheel is positive but the wheel moves up and down left and right the whole vechile is good and i would hate to trash it any hep would be appreciated

Hi thanks for the responce it is lumina apv 1990 which is in good order all round except for this steering column problem

I have the haynes manual and he chiltons manual but they do not show too much on this subject

which "metal cover" were you talking about?....since you have manuals already, maybe specify which component you want to highlight....I can scan a few more details...

Hi the movment comes from within the tilt column housing
