Sounds like a Vacuum Cleaner 97' pickup
Wondering where to start on a 97' s-10 extra cab 4 cylinder motor w/ about 103000 miles!!! Basically, when shifting thru the gears it sounds like a vacuum cleaner when I take it out of gear it quits. Again, I only hear this when I'm in the gas!! Also, another seperate problem, I am wondering if I need to do a tune-up at this time!! It has been running a little rough, (Idle's a little hard) any suggestions will be appreciated.........Please be detailed as I am not too car savy!! Thanks!!

Re: Sounds like a Vacuum Cleaner 97' pickup
Welcome to AF
Is it a stock air filter setup? Could you be hearing the fan? Does it do it cold or hot or both?

Re: Sounds like a Vacuum Cleaner 97' pickup
Yes, 1. The air filter is stock on this truck!
2. This may be the fan that I'm hearing, have been told it's a clutch fan maybe! A little more background, it didn't start doing this until I went in the ditch (didn't hit anything just slid off the road)! 3. It does it cold and hot! Mainly fron about midway to the end of an acceleration when going thru the gears! Do you know where to start on the rough idle problem........Thanks again, and sorry it took so long to reply to your post!! Nascarfanz |

Re: Sounds like a Vacuum Cleaner 97' pickup
Sounds like you have a vacuum hose leak. You might be able to find it by revving the motor and looking around. The vacuum leak will make it idle bad.
