CD Changer Static/Interference

My wife's car has had a CD Changer installed and working for about 5 years. Recently we had the starter replaced and ever since when she plays CD's it has static and interference. What happened?? How do I go about fixing it? Thanks!!

does the changer tune in fro the radio, or is it hard wired to the in-dash radio ?
