Chime still going off when Key is out

I have a 97 Exploer Eddie Bauer 5.0 and the warning chime is going off even when the key is pulled out of the ignition. It stops when the door is closed and goes off when the door is opened. I have checked all the switch moving them to make sure everything is turned off. Do you have any ideas what it could be and how I could fix it? Thanks foir the help

For what it's worth to you, I've had this same issue with my '94 for a while now. The repair garage told me I needed a new ignition switch. That was about 200,000 miles ago (there's over 325,000 on it now). The switch has gradually become quite "sloppy", but the vehicle still starts right up every time.

There is a "key in" switch integrated into the ignition switch on many Ford products, your Explorer may be included. The sole function of this switch is for the key in ignition and door open chime as well as preventing the doors from locking with the key in the ignition.

It's up to you to determine if this chime is worth replacing the ignition switch and having to have a new set of keys. Does your '97 have the transponder keys?

It does not have a Transponder Key, just a regular key with a FOB. If it is not a big deal then we'll just use it as a reminder to make sure everthing is off. Unless there are any other ideas.

Remove ignition cylinder from column. There is a small grounding slat that needs to be bent so it will contact the cylinder. Easy fix. You may need to adjust 3 or 4 times to get it right.
