1988 Suburban VATS? System

Would a 1988 Suburban have the GM Vats system with the resistor in the key? I had a buddy look at a suburban (1988 454 2 wd) to purchase. When he went to test drive it, it would only run for two minutes and shut off.

The salesman said it ran fine until they replaced the steering colum....What do you think??? 01 BMW 525

I think it has Passlock. There is a relearn procedure. You will have to get a manual.

I am not sure it has the security system on it.
Is security light on for bulb check or staying on?
As taillight said do a relearn.
You might try a key on for 30 minutes. or key on for 10 minutes and the off 3 times.
Did the old key have the pellet in it and does the new column key have a pellet in it?
But also get the ign key out of the old column and check the pellet resistance and have a new key made with the same resistance as old key.

I didn't think GM used any security on the truck line until 97 or 98
