Question Grand Prix Start up problems

I just bought a 2000 Grand Prix GT with 147000 miles on the motor, I test drove it,no problems. I got it home, cut of the motor, went to start it again and it started and stalled out. It seems after it gets hot it doesn't want to start. They put a new alternator on. Still has the same problem. When it runs it sounds good and doesn't miss. Its just after it gets hot if you turn it off it won't cut on. It acts like its not getting fuel to the motor. Any one know what my problem could be?

Re: Grand Prix Start up problems

I do not know what causes that but I do know its a very common problem with the 97-03 grand prix. I have had several people tell me they just have to wait, but i've never seemed to have that problem. Sorry couldn't help anymore.

Re: Grand Prix Start up problems

Are you saying the starter won't turn the engine over, or the engine turns over and just doesn't start?

Re: Grand Prix Start up problems

Sometimes the engine will turn over then stall out or it will just crank and not start at all. I can tell its not the starter. It really acts like its not getting fuel. The guy that sold it to me had a garage work on it. They said they put some module on and he was driving it home to see how it does. The man that sold it to me has not cashed my check yet. He said if he couldn't get it fixed he would give me my money back. At least he is being fair about it.

Re: Grand Prix Start up problems

it sounds like he changed either the ignition module (no spark causing no start) or the fuel pump module (low/no fuel pressure causing no start). I guess you'll find out when he gets back with you.

Re: Grand Prix Start up problems

Challeno, this thread is a little old, but since your post is directly related to the OP's issue, I see no problem with you posting in it. It would have been nice for the OP to let us know if he/she resoved his/her issue.

Try unhooking the MAF sensor to see if it starts and stays running. When a MAF first starts to fail, it will not trip a CEL, but will cause what you're describing. Since the MAF is only used by the PCM in closed loop mode, that is why it acts up when the car is warmed up.
