Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

Hi everyone I am new to this forum so a big HI!!!!!!!!! to everyone!

now i have a big question for me but easy for most of you probably

I wanna know what should i get that i can be heard a few blocks away from my house but i have a budget of $500 but please keep it as cheap as possible I have a 2003 Chevy impala which i want to keep the regular stereo system on the inside of the car. I listen to rap and hip hop mostly. I don't know much about car audio but i think i would need like subwoofers a box an amplifier and the cables. now i would want to install it so that it wouldnt cost more money that way i can get the most system for my money! I will consider any suggestions! oh! and if anyone knows a website i could use to install the system into my car that would be perfect.
thank you for anyone that can help me out on this
Bradley

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

Welcome to AF.

Personally I think you're better off getting an aftermarket deck versus using the stock one if you really want to get the most out of your sub(s). Using the stock system you'd need a really good Line Ouput Converter. Aftermarket deck will give you better sound shaping controls and equalizers. Its not hard to install a system at all. Put enough juice in any sub and you'll be heard.

edit: i really shouldn't say any sub. Just get something that has good SPL. Kicker and some Infinity subs come to mind. Audiobahns are good if you like rap music and want to be heard, even though they suck.

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

Well it depends on how much power the amp is putting out but generally pioneer isn't the way to go if you want to be loud. You want component subwoofers for that "boom boom" bass and hooking them to a stock radio does not help your cause IMO. However i'm just plain against stock systems, subwoofer or not, as most really aren't that great anyway. I'm pretty sure a good line output converter and possibly an equalizer of some sort is all that is needed. PaulD or someone should confirm this. You may want to see if best buy or some local audio store has Alpine's LAT, their new powered subwoofer that can be found for $500 if you shop around online. It uses like 6 small subwoofers with a good RMS.

better off saving money and getting a higher budget. 500 dollars isnt much to start a system on.

If you want to be loud for pretty cheap you could go with a RE SX12 and a hifonics BXi1606D. thats a decent start and it comes out to around 500 total, but then you have to factor in the box, wiring, front stage, front stage amp, headunit... etc

actually, the stock cde player is better than most cd players below the like $400 mark (MSRP). The real problem is getting a good LOC.

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

an LOC is a Line Output Converter. Its what you use to hook up a component subwoofer to a stock system since they don't have preamp outputs. Pioneer is good, I just wouldn't get it if I wanted to be heard a few blocks away. And i'd bet you my Blazer those numbers you gave are peak numbers (I know the amp is cuz that's the max rating for my Pioneer amp), which are pretty useless. Find out the RMS ratings for both sub and amp and also get the sensitivity/efficiency/SPL number for the subs. If I were in your shoes i'd look at anything rated at 92 dB and above.

Please don't get your stuff at a flea market. The only stuff I see at flea markets are Sony products and I would buy a Wal-Mart brand sub (if they made one) over their stuff. Ebay is the place to go for deals on anything.

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

You probably need to save more money if you want anything that you will be happy with. You can get Alpine/Infinity products for cheap and they are not bad for the price. Heres a sample list I made using prices from woofersetc.com

Alpine Type R 12" DVC 4ohm- $140
Hifonics Titan 500x1 @ 2 ohm- $225
Amp Kit- $30 knukonceptz.com
Box - DIY $30

Thats under $500 and would sound great inside the car, I dont think you could hear it form too far away, but thats not important.

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

I prefer sealed, but making a ported box is easy also.

Here is Alpine's spec sheet for they Type R subs. It has all the Theile Small parameters and recommends their optimum box specs.

http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products..._SWR-1242D.PDF

Ported usually has more output at low frequencies, but handles less power.

Sealed can handle more power, but has lower output at low frequencies, but plays lower.

Re: Need suggestions on what to buy I have a budget

sealed has MORE output at the lowest frequencies, in a ported box - the sub is unloaded below the port tuning freq. The ported box gives you like 6 dB of bass boost just above the tuning freq. I guess if you tune a box low enough, you wouldn't notice the missing freqs. There typically isn't much below 30 Hz unless it's a bass cd or classical music.
