Question 95 Buick Park Ave

I seriously need some help! Im a 22 year old female, so obviously I know nothing about cars!
Anyways, my car was working fine. I had stopped at a stop sign and when I pressed on the gas to go, it just died. When I tried to start it, it wouldnt do anything. The lights, radio, etc... still worked, but it wont start. It wont turn over, it wont click. It just acts dead. The battery is new. So I dont believe that is the problem. Could it be the fuel pump? A friend of mine said thats what it sounds like. Please help!!!! Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Would still crank (turn over) if the fuel pump went).

Re: 95 Buick Park Ave

its most def the fuel pump it WONT crank if it is. the exact same thing happened to mine. the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank so if you run the car with less than like a quarter of a tank it will eventualy burn up the pump, sorry.

Wow, wait a minute! A bad fuel pump will not prevent the engine from turning over! Let's not give advise that may cause a person unnecessary expense, or labor. The original poster said;

Back to the OP; You may have a new battery, but are the terminals clean & tight? If all that checks out, you would need to check the starter, or solenoid. (Go back to what WrightZ28 said in post #2)

err em, Welcome to AF

Fuel pumps do as their name implies, pump fuel, be it mechanically or electric, this will not inhibit a motor from rotating in any way shape or form.

As Hotz28 pointed out,k double check all your battery conections, especially that pesky positive (red) cable, if you have the 2 overlapping ones, make sure thye don't move amoungst each other. Had a problem car come to me that the bushing that makes a firm connection between the two, was (inadvertantly) not reinstalled after a battery replacement and they worked loose.

Unhappy Re: 95 Buick Park Ave

Well, after having a friend change out the starter and looking for anything else to be possibly wrong, Im told that my problem is my key. I have an anti-theft type key. So, I take it to the car dealer to get a new one and Im told that they dont have my type key anymore. A type #10.
Does this sound right?! Could it be my key thats causing it to not start?!

Re: 95 Buick Park Ave

Yes, the key can cause the starter not to engage! If the key resistor is not read correct by the key decoder in the steering column, the starter enable relay will not energize.

The very first thing you need to do is to watch the Security light when you turn on the ignition. If the system is working properly, it will light up for a few seconds and go out. If it stays on, you have a security problem.

Do you have another key to try? Any reputable locksmith can read the resistor and cut a new key for you for about 20 bucks. Of course, you could have other problems with the key recognition reader, or wiring in the steering column.

What does the security light do when you turn on the ignition?
