Voiding Warranty
I want to put a performance muffler on my car and the exhuast place told me it would not void the warranty. They said that mods in back of the catalytic would not void the warranty. I just called my dealer and they said that a muffler would void it. I don't know if I should just say screw it and put it on or if I should hold off. Has anyone had similar problems?

From what I understand, the only way something void's a warrenty is if when something goes wrong, they can PROVE that what you did caused the problem. Personally, I'd just get the exhaust, and if you have prob's, take it to a dealership (a different one than you already talked to) and get them to fix it, if they tell you that you voided the warrenty, then take your car back, switch back the exhaust, and take it to the other dealership.

I would just get one put on. Your warranty will probably wear out long before anything exhaust related goes wrong.

My infinit dealership told me it only voided what you replaced so you would void your warrenty on your exhaust if you went with something like cams and the caused something to go wrong in the motor and they can prove thats what caused it then they wont fix the motor

Thanks guys. I talked to some other people last night and they said I should take it up with the FTC to see what the rules are. I called them this morning and they said that if the part does not contribute to the problem with the car, the dealership cannot void the warranty. For example, if there is a problem with the engine or the transmission, the dealership cannot void the warranty because of an aftermarket exhaust. The dealer has to prove that your aftermarket part caused the problem. The FTC said if the dealer voids the warranty and the exhaust wasn't the cause of the problem, I can report them. If anyone happens to be interested by this, check out their website at www.ftc.gov.
