Dry versus Wet System Intakes

I'm in the market for intakes for my 3000GT, and i've come across a rather big decision. I look at intake system such as the K&N FIPK and realize it's a wet system, needed oil to be put on it to keep it at it's optimum filtrating and air intaking-ness. What I'm trying to find is a few things:

1.) Which is better, a wet system involving oil perriodically having to be put on the filter, or a dry system, in which you just have to wash it occasionally.

2.) Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make 3000GT car specific Dry Air Filters and Intakes.

3.) And with the manufacturers, does anyone know of any good brands to go with for intakes as well as more opinions and more knowledge on the differences as positives and negatives of both the wet and dry system intakes.

4.) instead of just intakes, would short-ram intakes/cold air intakes really make much of a difference, also, would any intakes in general give better gas mileage, and if so, what should I choose for that type of set-up for better gas mileage and why.

This is my first mod, and I intend to do it right, so any knowledge on which is better, which one is easier to maintain, which is cheaper, etc.

I'm just looking to add a little flair under the hood, create a throatier sound, and possibly get better MPG if possible.

thanks for all your help,

Re: Dry versus Wet System Intakes

Go with a cheap intake of Ebay. Reason being... an intake will get you nothing more than 1hp, all they do is look nice, and give you better airflow for supporting mods.

The reason intakes give you better gas milage is because your engine can breathe much better with an open element filter as opposed to the stock air box.

A cold air and short Ram are no different, although I would go with a short ram because if you get water in a cold air intake, you're pretty much SOL.

Just do yourself a favor, save a LOT of money, and buy a cheap intake off Ebay, they are the same exact thing. Don't waste your money the the K&N. When you have an intake with a filter that's costing you $100+, you really should reconsider.
