About to leave my car in the ghetto....

Ok sofar i have spent about 2k on the car in repairs since i bought it 6 months ago.. well the problems keep comin. My low oilpressure light comes on when i idle, and i'm leaking oil out of where my boost guage is hooked up. I took it to mitsubishi to have it looked at and they said the low oil pressure could be possibly some thing easy or something really expensive. I'm going to try to have the oilpressure switch(not sure wat its called) replaced which is around $20. This could be the easy fix... if that does not work than i know i have some big problems and have to tear down the engine. Any idea on what the low oil pressure could be from?? Also if i decide to sell it because i cant afford to fix it what would be a good car for around 12k.

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

how many miles do you have on the car? what stuff have you done so far? yeah could be your sending unit (oil pressure sensor) or it could be the oil pump or it could be the big things like the bearings..

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

Well i had Good Year and some hole in the wall mechanic look at it and they said the head was leaking, but i had mitsubishi do a dye test and they said it was not leaking from the head gasket, it was infact leaking from where the aftermarket oil pressure guages hooks up. It makes me glad to see that you remember that Linebckr makes me feel important.
It has 78k miles on body and 6k on rebuilt motor. Mitsu said that the engine looked like it was thrown together because some things where off... like on the idle for cold warm ups or somethin was bypassed and a few other things, not so important. here are the mods i was told it had when i bought it.
Engine:
*Professionally rebuilt engine from top to bottom
*Cylinder heads milled and rebuilt
*Front and rear turbochargers were rebuilt and balanced
*All brand new gaskets were used during rebuild
*New timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, NKG spark plugs, etc...
*New water pump, oil pump, acc. belts, radiator, and thermostat
*Powdercoated red front and rear valve covers
*Polished spark plug cover with Stealth milled into it

Drivetrain:
*Resurfaced flywheel
*New Exedy Stage 1 clutch disc and pressure plate
*New throwout bearing
*Penozoil Synchromesh fluid used in transmission
*Transfercase rebuilt and filled with new fluid (Recall Done)
*25 spline output shaft in transfercase
*Rear center differential fluid changed

Intake:
*Polished intake manifold plenum
*Polished y-pipe
*Vacuum hose reduction kit
*EGR blockoff plates
*K&N cone air filter
*TurboXS Type H blow off valve
*TurboXS manual boost controller set at 10psi

Exhaust:
*Gutted pre-cat/no main cat
*Polished stainless steel 3 inch downpipe

Suspension/Wheels:
*New front outer tie rods, balljoints, driver side wheel bearing
*New front rotors and brake pads
*Intrax lowering springs
*Faulken GR Beta 245/40ZR-18 tires
*Privat Profil 18x8.5 rims with new lugnuts
*3,500 miles on wheels and tires

Miscellaneous:
*Dual gauge pillar pod
*Autometer Sport-Comp boost gauge
*Autometer Sport-Comp electric oil pressure gauge
*New Duralast Gold battery
*New floor mats and leather shifter boot
*New power antenna mast

also do you think it has enough stuff done to it that it might need to be tuned??
Thanks for all the help guys

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

ok.. How many miles on the car sense the rebuild?? if it was someone that was not formiliar with mitsubishi motors then they may have used a remain crank.. and those are known for failing.. and that could cause low oil presure..

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

i know you're glad you had to just pay for the dye test and to repair the small leak at the oil pres sending unit...instead of paying for a head job and have it still leak! your wallet thanks you .

that experience should tell you enough never to go back to that Good Year place, or to that hole-in-the-wall mechanic, as they know next to shit and couldn't even see where the oil was leaking from.

no, you should not need to get it tuned as the turbos are stock and you're running around stock boost levels (10psi).

This statment worries me alot. If your boost guage is connected properly its connected to the intake which should not have oil in it. Find the source of that oil and you might find why your preasuer is low.

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

^^^^^ Ehhh now i feel dumb... sorry i ment oil pressure guage. sorry :s right now i'm debateing..... dont know if i should take my chance and fix it and hope it works fine from now on and take it to college with me, or to just sell it and go for something newer and more reliable. I was thinking SRT-4 (ya i know they are ugly as hell) simply because it is fast and affordable, with good MPG

Re: About to leave my car in the ghetto....

If your leaking oil where the Oil Preasure guage is connected that is probably errecting your readings.

I'd suggest removing it, cleaning both sides and reinstalling.
