new project.. hehehe
well I was going to just sell off all my extra stuff but a 92 mitsubishi diamonte (can't even spell it haha) just fell into my lap!! I am going to swap the SOHC motor out and through in my extra 3000 gt tt motor!! haha should be a sweet sleeper! anyways I am going to use my extra ecu as well as my extra wire harness (sorry to those of you who wanted to buy parts from my harness).. and I need a FWD tranny cause I am going to make it a manual also.. should be an easy swap.. anyone heard of someone doing this before?? I will post pictures as I go just for those of you who are interested..

Re: new project.. hehehe
The 3000gt SOHC to DOHC swap is a bitch, I can't imagine this being "an easy swap"

dude.. I did a RHD conversion.. this is going to be cake.. If I get all the parts it wont take me more then a week to do.. and I plan on waiting untill I have everything I am going to need (at least what i can forsee needing).. what is going to be hard about it?? custom middle consel will be the hardest part.. the clutch peddle will be easy.. the new motor will fit easy.. the powersteering will be a little pain in my ass but not a huge deal.. drive shafts from the sl 5speed should work.. if it doesnt thats just a little more costumization's haha.. tranny will bult right up.. shift linkage is not a big deal.. really.. it should be easy.. Unless I am missing somthing big here.. |

Re: new project.. hehehe
What you are missing is that the SOHC is a single coil with distributor engine and the DOHC is a computer controlled ignition system. Converting from one to the other requires that you have the full body harness from a DOHC not just the engine harness with ECU. It is far more difficult than a DOHC to TT swap, and far more difficult than doing a little welding.

Re: new project.. hehehe
talskiny is indeed right. The DOHC swap requires ALOT.
Off the top of my head DOHC engine engine wiring harness altenator ac pump and lines power steering pump and lines MFI relay Now the body harness is indeed different. On DOHCs the alt wiring is in the body harness. On SOHCs the alt wring is on the engine harness. (I might have that backwards but either way). The harness supposedly can be modified for the alt but it is indeed a huge hassle and you are better off swapping the body harness which is NOT easy at all. A few people have done the swap and each and every one of them took waaaay longer than they anticipated. Hope my info added on with talskiny's helps.
