Re: Help Me Make A Decision!!!!!!!!

The 1.6 is an excelent engine (as long as it was taken care of). Since its a manual, look for worn synchros in 5th gear (some will pop out of gear, some won't).

Just treat it like any used car. Look for things that you would normally look for. The only real issue is the 5th gear popout and leaky trunks (the taillights were poorly sealed from the factory).

Re: Help Me Make A Decision!!!!!!!!

My Sentra manual only goes through 1990, but as with any front wheel drive car the transmission will need to be unbolted from the engine. If you have never done a clutch replacement for a rear wheel drive car I would not suggest that you attempt doing this.

Find a friend that has done one for a front wheel drive and have him/her help you or take it to a garage and have them do it, if you do end up doing this yourself give yourself at least 2 or 3 days as a safety buffer or have some other way to get to work.

Things to expect:

-CV joints in the drive axles may also need to be replaced.
-Might as well replace the CV boots while you have everything apart.
-May find that when you remove the front brakes they will need to be replaced also.
-If you are lucky the flywheel will be ok, if not it will need to be resurfaced.
-Pressure plate may have cracks in it and/or broken pieces and need to be replaced.
-GET THE GUIDE TOOL for aligning the clutch plate, it will be your best friend!

Not meaning to be pessimistic on this, just giving you the facts.
