factory alarm

i bought the factory alarm from my girlfriends dad, and i've been trying to install it today, but i've hit a possible problem.

i put in the ignition relay, spliced the power, added the ground, and i tried to start my car to see if i've made any mistakes yet and it won't start.

it's not finished just yet, so maybe i have to wait until its all finished?

has anyone ever installed the factory alarm themselves?

Re: factory alarm

In my opinion you are wasting your time. The factory "alarm" is nothing more than a passive alarm. It doesnt go off unless the door in unlocked from the inside, or the hood is popped while the alram is set.

Re: factory alarm

i'm more happy to have keyless entry than anything. i got it for 20 dollars, rather than 250 at local places. i figured it would do for now.

Re: factory alarm

what year is the car?If its post 92 you should have all the wiring and computer for the keyless, you would just need a remote to program.

Re: factory alarm

its a 96. theres no way to program the remote because there's no status LED/ override button.

i'm going to go over all of my wiring tomorrow, finish it up and see maybe if the in-line fuse is bad? maybe i wasn't getting a good ground connection.

my car is getting electricity to all of my necessary components, it's just not getting power to the ignition, and i'm sure the relay harness has something to do with that.

what would you say a life on a 20 amp fuse is?

Re: factory alarm

i pulled out the fuse, but i have no idea if its good or not.

i'm still going to check my spliced wires to make sure i have a good constant and switched power coming from the ignition harness.

i think i'll e-mail dave. thanks.

Re: factory alarm

ok, i got my car running, everything is wired great..

i'm still missing that LED/ override button so i can't program my remotes right now. i guess i could take it to the dealership but they don't really seem to know what they are doing there, last time i went there to ask them a 3000GT question.

suggestions?

Re: factory alarm

There’s no LED indicator/ override button, on factory alarms. There were some aftermarket alarms added by some dealers on cars with out factory alarms. Send me the vin and Ill see if it has a factory one.

Re: factory alarm

The alarm in question is a Mitsu authorized accessory. That’s why there is confusion. This is for the cars without the factory alarms.

Car Alarm Types
There are two main types of car alarm activation methods. Passive and active. Passive alarms automatically enter an armed state after the ignition is turned off and the last door is closed. Active alarms require the user to press the transmitter button to arm and disarm the system.
